Development of Advanced Logistics and Scheduling Systems

September, 1998 -- Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University.
Post-Doctoral Fellow: performing research and software development in the area of Knowledge Based Planning and Scheduling, Mixed-Initiative Problem Solving, and Reconfigurable Software Architectures. Working in the design and implementation of the Barrel Resource Allocator for Air Mobility Command.

September, 1991 to August, 1998 --
Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University.
Graduate research assistant: worked on the design and development of knowledge based decision support systems applied to planning and scheduling for manufacturing, transportation, and logistics.
Applications:
1999-2000: one of the main system architect and algorithm designer in the design and development of an application to support for Air Mobility Command's daily operations and resource allocation.
1996-98: developed prototype schedulers to support USTRANSCOM multi-modal transportation activities during strategic deployment and crisis situations.
1996: developed a prototype tool for air campaign planning and analysis. This prototype acted as a scheduler agent in a multi-agent planning platform developed by SRI.
1995: designed and implemented a planning and scheduling prototype for medical evacuation in crisis situation.
1994: modified an existing scheduling system to support reactive scheduling for army surface movement.
1993-94: implemented algorithms to provide generative and reactive scheduling capabilities for modified versions of the job shop problems.


Software Engineering and System Development

May to September, 1993 --
Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University.
Graduate Research Assistant: Applied the Feature Oriented Domain Analysis methodology in the development of a Domain Model for the problem of implementing reactive scheduling systems. Implemented a prototype scheduling system for army surface movement.

January to September, 1991 –

Senior System Analysis: provided technical support and training to a suite of Intergraph CAD-CAM software products.

April, 1989 to July, 1990 --
Companhia Vidraria Santa Marina, São Paulo, Brazil.
Senior Software Engineer: worked in the knowledge acqusition, design and implementation of an expert system for large scale plate glass production.

Ph.D.Thesis Title: “Reconfigurable Architectures for Mixed-Initiative Planning and Scheduling”
Description: This thesis proposes a modeling framework for building advanced, mixed-initiative scheduling applications. The implementation of a tool automating certain parts of the modeling activities and concrete applications developed using the approach are also discussed.
